The Catholic and Community House – former Cinema “Marzenie”
The construction of the Catholic and Community House began in 1920 on the initiative of the “Bratnia Pomoc” Association, which had been founded before the First World War by Father Stanisław Stojałowski. The members of “Bratnia Pomoc” formed the Committee for the Construction of the Catholic and Community House in Kozy, later renamed the Catholic and Community House Association. One the most prominent members of the organisations was Antoni Furch, decorated with the Bene Merenti medal by the Pope. The construction of the house was completed in 1924. The façade bears commemorative plaques to Father Stanisław Stojałowski and St Anthony of Padua. The house was consecrated by the Archbishop of Kraków Dr Adam Stefan Sapieha. The house became the centre for all of the local Catholic organisations, as well as a cultural hub. There were plays staged by the Men's Catholic Youth Association and the Ladies’ Sodality of Holy Mary. Before the Second World War, the house gained a new facility, the cinema “Płomień” (Flame), with the projection system purchased by the local Fire Brigade. After the war, the cinema was renamed “Marzenie” (Dream) and operated until 1999. Currently, the house is used for council flats and by the Social Cooperative “Kino Marzenie”.
