The “Pod Koniem” Inn – Community Centre
At the time of the construction of the Imperial Road in the 18th century, the inn “Pod Koniem” (The Horse) was established in the centre of the village. It appears for the first time in 1782 in the inventory of manor buildings. The innkeeper Jan Byrski had at his disposal 60 beer barrels and 60 wine bottles. In the 19th century, the inns in Kozy were usually leased by innkeepers of Jewish origin, the last of whom was Emil Blumenfeld, who also ran a beer bottling plant. He was followed by Franciszek Hołuj, who ran the inn from 1904. The building had a characteristic porch with benches in front of the main entrance, with a picture of a horse painted on a board above it and the inscription “GOSPODA KONCESJONOWANA” (licenced Inn). In 1912 the manor sold the inn to Karol and Anna Hałat from Kozy. From 1925, the inn was run by Jan Hałat, who added a large hall on the southern side. From 1942 the inn was owned by Leopold Schubert, who converted it into a bakery. After the Second World War, the inn was taken over by the State Treasury as abandoned, post-German property.  The building then housed the Community Centre, a public library, the Civic Militia Post, the Commune Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party, a newsagent’s which also ran book club meetings, the Club of the Union of Rural Youth, and the Chamber of Memorabilia. Today, the former “Pod Koniem” inn is the main seat of the Community Centre in Kozy and numerous social associations. In 2010 a renovation was carried out, after which the building received a characteristic clock tower with a chime.
