Franciszek Hołuj’s house – the former restaurant and beer bottling plant
The house number 443 was built in 1907 by Franciszek Hołuj (1871-1927), a court propinator (official responsible for the production and sale of alcohol), restaurateur and local entrepreneur. Franciszek Hołuj was president of the Veterans’ Association and an activist of the Sokół Gymnastic Association. Hołuj initially worked as a court propinator in the “Pod koniem” inn. In 1910 he opened his own Żywiec beer bottling plant and a restaurant, which operated until the post-war period (the restaurant was closed down in 1946 and the bottling plant and soda water factory in 1947). The beer bottling plant was a branch of the Archduke’s Brewery in Żywiec. Beer was brought by rail to Kozy where it was distributed in 0.5 to 1 litre bottles with labels bearing the names of the owner and the village. The bottling plant in Kozy also served customers in Bujaków, Pisarzowice, Stara Wieś, Hecznarowice, Wilamowice and Hałcnów. In addition to the restaurant, Hołuj also ran the soda water production and the “SOLO” packaging ribbon factory. After his death, the family business was taken over by his son Stefan. The building also housed the the headquarters of the Veterans’ Association founded in 1905, of which F. Hołuj was president, and the Association of Former Military Men.

On 3 May 1946, F. Hołuj’s daughter Janina Duźniak launched the Community Public Library in Kozy in house no. 443.
